Sunday in the Garden!

Updated: Jan 23

As I returned home from work this morning, all I could think about was getting into my garden. I work nightshift in the ICU at our hospital here on Maui and things have gotten a little crazy. Covid cases have been on the rise and the hospital is not my most favorite place to be these days. I have been elated to return home, ever since I planted this garden. I get to see the fruits of my labor. I get to cultivate veggies and flowers. I get to attract pollinators to the garden, thus creating more life. It’s just so magical.

My favorite thing to do when I get home, is take pictures. Here are some from this morning. And, BONUS, my broccoli has finally started to produce!! These babies were planted in October! Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to growing veggies!

The first seedling is allspice! Who would’ve thought! These seeds came from Maui Seeds, a local purveyor on island. I read that these seeds need time and, about 4 months later, I have a seedling! Patience is everything. The middle picture is my broccoli emerging its little head. I am so excited and cannot wait to see how it develops! My sunflower to the left is just so fun to have in the garden. These flowers have definitely attracted bees, which I am so happy about. Ok, some more photos…

We’ve got some arugula micro greens and broccolini from True Leaf Market. These seeds are awesome! Ti leaves in the next photo from a local farmer here on MauI. My husband and daughter did a sort of work trade and received some beautiful plants. The next is a gorgeous red geranium from Lowe’s nursery, such. vibrant color! And finally, we have some giant marigold and cherry tomatoes from Maui Seed Company. I’ve planted the tomatoes right next to a bunch of Italian basil and the fragrance is out of this world.

And finally all of my seeds. There is so much to look forward to! I cannot wait to see these guys flourish and develop into beautiful veggies ans flowers. Will keep you updated along the way!

Happy Sunday friends. 💚
